My kind of music

I am a self-proclaimed car enthusiast. I love the exhilaration when I am behind the wheel or even when I am being chauffeured around. I have also noticed that those who love driving also enjoy their music. Most people enjoy listening to their favourite tracks while driving.

While some say it calms their nerves while driving, some say it gives them the additional energy while driving, and others say music takes them to a different world altogether! Be it the latest Bollywood tracks, hip-hop, reggae, old school rock or classical music, it often helps to forget the world and traffic outside and transports you.

When it comes to my choice of music, let me admit that I am genre agnostic. I like to listen to anything that is relevant to the mood I am in at that moment. For instance, I like to workout to music with upbeat tempo, when I am working I prefer softer western classical music and when I am winding down my day, I enjoy some classical Sufi music. My mood and the situation around defines my choice of music.

However, while driving, it’s a different story. I do not listen to any music at all! Surprising isn’t it?

For me, when I’m behind the wheel of my car, the noise of the exhaust is music to my ears. I find the sounds of the car to be the most pleasing.

I usually don’t play any music while driving, much to my family’s annoyance. They have put a precondition before accompanying me for a drive that I will have to play the music of their choice or else they won’t join me! We have managed to reach an unspoken compromise that there will be some music and some car exhaust noise so that we can all enjoy the drive together.

After all without compromise there can be no co-existing and we have to always leave space for individual likes and needs in order for peace to reign!
